We must give a huge vote of thanks to the 40 or so volunteers who staff the shop, we could not function without them.
Our oldest volunteer is over eighty years of age!
Usually, two staff will work a shift together. Mandy the manager, or sometimes an experienced shift leader, will supervise newer staff or those that need more support.
Thorough training is given to new volunteers, to make sure that everyone, whatever age, is familiar with operating the EPOS till system and all the other day to day duties.
A single shift lasts for two and a half hours; some volunteers are able to contribute more of their time than others.
The atmosphere in the shop is always happy and welcoming and visitors to the village often comment on how they love the shop and think the staff and stock are second to none.
From time to time, we hold a volunteer tea or coffee party, so that we can share information, recruit and welcome new volunteers and generally relax together.
Dates for these will be posted in the shop, on this website and on Facebook when they occur.
Being a volunteer in the shop is a great way to meet and get to know other people in the village. When we first began to plan this venture, one of our objectives was to provide the village with a social hub, as well as a viable shop providing good products at reasonable prices.
We are always seeking new volunteers to join our team.
Holiday times can sometimes call for extra shifts to be covered and if you are trained up and confident that you are able to offer cover even on a casual basis, your contribution will be greatly appreciated.
If you are new to the village or already resident and would like to get involved, all help and support is very welcome.
